Jesus not only told us to pray for our enemies, he said to love them (Matthew 5:44). The metaphor of “adoption” sets the tone for the kind of praying that God desires from you. Jesus also said that God answers when two or more of us agree in Jesus’ name (Matthew 18:19-20). The “adoption” metaphor establishes this movement as a family endeavor. You are not alone. This initiative connects you with others and computes your “family” size.
Terrorists are zealots who think they serve God by killing infidels (John 16:2). They are like the Apostle Paul before he encountered Jesus on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:1). Jesus told us to forgive as we have been forgiven (Matthew 6:14), and he said that the one forgiven much loves much (Luke 7:47). Much grace for much sin turned Paul into God’s zealot for reaching gentiles. Paul’s conversion resulted in us being Christians today. Now your prayers can help change the one whom God will use to reach the Muslim world.
The war on terrorism transcends flesh and blood (Ephesians 6:12). It involves spiritual powers behind twisted ideologies. With prayer, we fight fire with water. We engage the actual enemy with a spiritual weapon forged by the completely opposite Spirit. Heaven becomes silent to hear the prayers of the saints (Revelation 8:1). When the collected prayers return to earth, they achieve tangible material results (Revelation 8:5).
